Recycled Crayons

cray4.jpg

My kids & I had such a fun time with this project! I know if has been shown a million times online, but the results are so fun and pretty! Here is how we made ours...

The kids sorted the colors ad removed all the paper from the crayons. This is a tedious task but they have fun and it is great for fine motor skills! I used a silicone candy mold and someone had suggested trying cookie cutters, so we tried that too.

WARNING!!!!! Do NOT use the cookie cutters for melting crayons! The melted crayons ran out from under the cutter and made a huge mess! Ohhhhhh well, huge messes are nothing new around here!!!

Simply put in the oven at 150 degrees F for about 15 - 20 minutes. I then put the mold in the freezer for about an hour. They popped right out and were ready to color! My kids even got to them before I could photograph them- they were so excited to try out the results. These would make a great gift and are a great way to use up all those broken and old crayons!
